Bell and Cisco: partners on the path to environmental sustainability
Since 2023, Bell has been honoured to hold its Environmental Sustainability Specialization from its partner Cisco. This achievement acknowledges Bell’s longstanding commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards, while enabling customers to achieve their own environmental objectives.
Bell's commitment to a better world, underscored by this partnership, is reflected in our product and service offerings, which help Canadian businesses and organizations mitigate and adapt to climate change. For example, our emissions-reducing fleet management solutions, leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT), optimize fuel consumption. Our cloud-based collaboration and cybersecurity tools enable remote and hybrid work, reducing commutes and their environmental impact while ensuring secure data sharing. Furthermore, our data and AI solutions help optimize company operations, minimizing energy and resource waste. These technologies directly help our customers reduce their environmental impact, improve workplace safety and enhance data protection.
Cisco has also set ambitious and holistic goals to transform their company into a sustainability leader and deliver a regenerative future for Canadians. Their initiatives include sending more than 99% of returned products to reuse or recycling, and to incorporate Circular Design Principles into 100% of new products and packaging in fiscal 2025.
The alignment of Bell and Cisco’s environmental commitments include evolving into a circular economy, setting and publicly disclosing meaningful greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets and maintaining a certified environmental management system.
For more than 30 years, Bell has been committed to reducing the negative environmental impacts of its operations. As part of its path to a circular economy, Bell has recovered for reuse or recycling over 8 million customer devices since 2022, and in 2024 diverted more than 3,000 metric tonnes of customer electronic devices away from landfills. Our progress toward environmental stewardship continues, including:
-
-
- Progressing toward our target of Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality for our operational GHG emissions1 in 2025.
- Reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 58% by 2030, from a 2020 base year.
- Supporting Cisco’s target of achieving 100% product return on end-of-use hardware – at no cost to Bell customers.
- Helping customers manage their carbon footprint by expanding our offering of cloud computing, IoT solutions, teleconferencing, Data & AI, and other transformative solutions that promote sustainability.
